Friday, June 15A Day at Vista Alegre : Friday was one of the group's fastest days. It began early, as is common, and didn't find time to stop. The Sports team played hard soccer all day, finding gaps to rest only during times of sharing the Gospel. The Student team took the concert and Gospel presentation on the road to 4 area schools, while the Evangelism team was assigned 34 in-home visits, as well as street evangelism opportunities.

The evening concluded with a concert and Gospel presentation at Igreja Batista (Memorial Baptist), Vista Elegre. It was standing-room-only with several decisions. This proved to be a very productive day!

Thursday, June 14Downtown & Uptown : The day began with a brief visit to a local church before moving on to the Downtown square. Lacated next to a long-standing catholic church, the open, central square make the perfect venue for a concert and street evangelism. thousands of people passed by this area as the Student team gave 3 concerts and gospel presentations. both the sports and Evangelism team worked the square and surrounding area. Dozens of people gave their life to Christ.
Later, all teams moved to a local popular shopping strip. This was the groups first direct encounter to middle to upper class, as the shops proved to be higher-dollar. What initially looked to be a poor location quickly picked up in traffic. Again, the Student team presented the concert while the Sports and Evangelism team presented the gospel and conducted Street evangelism. Many more were won to the Lord, making for a very successful day.

Tuesday, June 12The Hills of Maua : We left the hotel Tuesday at 6:45 am and would not return until 1:00am Wednesday morning. The 3 hour bus journey to Maua took us to a different face of Brazil. Tall, rolling hills, deep green woods, highly industrialized... and very poor. The average income in this area is about $300 American dollars.
Maua carries a reputation for being the slums and possibly dangerous. Yet, the reality didn't seem to fit that reputation. It is very old and somewhat primative, but the people appear to be very happy with what they have. A clear indication of it's difference was the absence of fireworks. A few fireworks are set off by dealers to give notice of a new arrival of supplies. This is a familiar noise in Campinas, yet was absent in Maua.
No known mission group of our size has visited Maua. Children took off from shcool to meet us as we arrived. This was a big day for them. Groups were assigned and sent out to great, invite and share the Gospel. the people were very receptive and responded well.
Many people gave their life to Christ on the streets. The Sports team split off to go to a local juvenile jail. No cameras were allowed, if fact the two photos in this gallery are the only photos they allowed. Fourteen boys gave their life to Christ from the jail. Two concerts were given that night, ccomplete with the Gospel message. Both were packed, with many standing outside. The energy outside matched that that was present inside. The Sports and Evangelism teams witnessed to those standing around and over 35 were saved. We know of at least 130 people who were won to the Lord that day in Maua.

Sunday/Monday, June 10-11El Shaddai Baptist Church : Sunday and Monday were both dedicated to the area surrounding El Shaddai Baptist Church, about 15 minutes from the hotel. El Shaddai is know by loacal as the Water Well Church, as they have a natural well in out front availabe to the community. These two days marked the first effort in which all three teams coordinated their work together to build one event: the evening worship and Gospel presentation.
Sunday began with all teams going out to canvas the area for street evangelism and to drum up interest in the evening worship While David Hain preached during the morning worship at El Shaddai. Quite often the people are told to come see the Americans and the Texans give a concet and speak. Something about that works well! It is common to hear children shouting to parents in Portuegese, "the Americans have come," or "I saw the Americans!"
The teams split Sunday afternoon. The Sports team immediately build a crowd as they played street soccer in front of the church. Many were saved. The Evangelism team hit the homes around the church, again. Great numbers were invited and many were saved. The Student team gave a concert at a local park, encouraging people to the evening event. Monday afternoons saw all three teams out again: the Sports team using sports to draw a crowd, the evangelism tean conducting door-to-door evangelism and the Student team giving a concert and Gospel presentation at a locall school.
Both evening worship services were full. Larry Randall preached Sunday night John Babler Monday. The work and coordination of all three teams proved successful at drawing the crouwd! Many were saved both nights, and many rededicated their life to the Lord.
Many Brazillians have been shown thoughout these galleries. These are locals that have been saved and/or invited to an event, and who we continue to pray over. Some of their stories will be told in future updates.

Saturday, June 9The Market and Concert : Saturday was the perfect day for a flexible mindset. It began at the Hippy Fair outdoor Market (imagine a smaller Canton). What would seem to be a built-in conflict of wanting to shop, with the mission to witness, actually proved a perfect venue for Conversational Gospel. The group resonded well to the call for street evangelism while exploring the retail booths.
That night gave rise to the groups first concert. We were one of several guests invited to sing at this local Christian music and inspriation event. Odd power fluxes and a different-than-described location continued the test of adaptability. As usual, things worked out fine with a gracious God, good attitudes and quick work-arounds.

Friday, June 8 Planning, Practicing and Witnessing : The jitters of first-day street evangelism were quickly washed away with the realization of how open this country is to hearing the Gospel. Teams of 2-3, complete with an interpreter, were sent out throughout the day. The mission was to open conversations for witnessing opportunities and to discover places that were uniquely effective for street evangelism. One team, for example, set up outside a childrens clinic were they found stressed parents with long waits for medical care. Other important Friday activities focused on long meetings with local pastors, Student Ministry Team concert practice and the continued 'marking' of Portuguese Bibles (see Thursday for explanation).

Thursday, June 7 Arriving in Brazil : After 10 hours in the air, the Mission Brazil Teams finally touched down in Brazil. The Americanos were greeted with a diffent culture of seemingly pleasant, but rushed people. One quickly began to two sides to the Brazillians: easy-going and always ready for conversation, yet hurried to get to some important destination. While Wednesday was given to the close confinements of buses and a plan, Thursday brought our arrival in Brazil and opportunities to get out and explore the hotel's surrounding life. Opportunities for sharing Christ were quickly discovered as people began responding to the need for salvations.
In addition to the arrival activities, today's gallery show some of the city life just beyond the hotel. Several used sports to open the door for witnessing. Finally, today marked the beginning of 'marking' thousands of Portuguese Bibles. These Bibles will be key tools in sharing Christ. Important Gospel verses are highlighted for specific use during witnessing. In addition to this, each is Bible is marked with instructions for the reader, similar to the Roman Road.
